Impact Lecture: Thickness of Impakt with Prof. Hanif Kara

Join professor Catherine de Wolf as she hosts professor Hanif Kara to present his Impact Lecture: Thickness of Impakt.

Professor Hanif Kara is a design director of the engineering practice AKT II, based in London, where he leads the firm’s 350 designers and technicians, who collectively offer 50 cultural backgrounds and 30 languages. He is renowned as a creative driving force within the intersection of design and engineering, and is widely published; his books include ‘Interdisciplinary Design’, ‘Design Engineering Refocused’, and ‘Architecture and Waste’.

Hanif is a Professor in Practice of Architectural Technology at the Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, and a Member of the Design Group of the UK’s National Infrastructure Commission. He sits on Portugal’s Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) Research Panel, as Advisor for the Alvaro Siza Foundation, and is a Steering Committee Member for the Glasgow School of Arts’ Mackintosh re-building programme. He has also served on the Steering Committee and Master Jury for the Aga Khan Award for Architecture (2006-2021). Hanif holds fellowships with the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Institution of Structural Engineers, the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Royal Institute of British Architects and the Royal Society Arts.

The Impact Lecture Series are organised by NCCR Digital Fabrication with the aim of openly discussing the social, economic and environmental impacts of new digital technologies in real-world applications.
