The Royal Society for Arts (RSA) has announced the appointment of five new Royal Designers for Industry (RDIs) and two Honorary Royal Designers for Industry (HRDIs)- joining the most distinguished community of designers in the world. The honorary title is awarded to non-UK designers, who have achieved “sustained design excellence, work of aesthetic value and significant benefit to society”.

NCCR DFAB Director Professor Philippe Block has been recognised as a structural designer and engineer “whose sustainable building systems are redefining architecture’s relationship with materials and gravity itself.” His research, innovations and projects exemplify the power of design and its ability to connect beauty with responsibility, and imagination with impact.

Congratulations to Philippe Block on this significant distinction.
