Open House Zürich at the Arch_Tech_Lab

For its 10th anniversary edition, Open House Zürich invited the public to explore more than 190 buildings and outdoor spaces across the city. Among them, the Arch_Tech_Lab at ETH Zurich opened its doors for guided tours and insights into pioneering research in digital fabrication.

The non-profit association Open House Zürich − “Architecture for All” − organised the architecture event for the tenth time this year. Supported by sponsors as well as the City and Canton of Zurich and the Federal Office of Culture, the event offered free access to historical and contemporary buildings and spaces over the course of a weekend. Its aim is to make architecture, landscape architecture, and urban planning tangible and comprehensible to a broad audience.

As part of the programme, three fully booked tours guided visitors through the Arch_Tech_Lab at ETH Zürich. Alongside the architectural qualities of the building, participants discovered research conducted within its walls. Demonstrations included Hollow Core, a process for fabricating 3D-printed plastic elements; Unfold Form, a lightweight and reusable formwork system for vaulted concrete structures; and the ETH spin-off Impact Build, which presented its robotic method for placing clay as a sustainable construction material.
