Fabio
Amicarelli
Fabio Amicarelli is an architect and PhD researcher at Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), with a strong interest in sustainable building processes and digital fabrication. He received his Master of Science at the Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio (USI). He gained professional experience in Lugano and Zurich, where he worked as specialist in computational design and digital fabrication. Within is doctoral project “Foldcast”, he developed paper-based formworks to shape structurally optimized concrete elements.
Work Topic
Foldcast combines software and digital machines to provide low-cost and fully recyclable paper formworks for optimized concrete elements. This flexible and easy to implement technology allows to produce code-compliant structural elements using up to 50% less concrete than standard, while enabling customized architectural designs.
