Dr. Alexandra Ion
Alexandra is a post-doctoral researcher at the Interactive Geometry Lab (IGL), working on interactive systems for fabrication of complex geometry for non-expert users.
I investigate and develop interactive design tools that enable digital fabrication of complex shapes and structures for novice users. One instantiation is optimizing for free-from 3D shapes to be cut from 2D materials, i.e., by piecewise developable surfaces. They are more energy efficient to manufacture compared to doubly curved shapes.
