Prof. Dr. Kristina Shea

Kristina Shea is Professor for Engineering Design and Computing in Mechanical and Processing Engineering at ETH Zurich since 2012. Her research focuses on developing cutting-edge computational models, methods and tools that enable the design of innovative, complex and optimised engineered systems and products as well as to automate design and fabrication processes. In 1997, she completed her PhD in mechanical engineering at the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, USA. Kristina Shea has held academic positions at the EPF Lausanne, Switzerland, the University of Cambridge, UK, and at the Technical University of Munich, Germany. She also worked as a senior engineer and consultant at Arup in London, UK, where she led the development of expertise in computational design and optimisation and where she applied her research to ongoing building design projects. She serves on several editorial boards in her field and is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
