Dr. Aryan Rezaei Rad is a structural engineer and was a member of the NCCR Digital Fabrication. Aryan studied at Tehran Polytechnic, and Civil Engineering at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, where he earned his PhD in 2020. Aryan was engaged in the NCCR Digital Fabrication program as a PhD researcher from 2016 to 2020 and as a postdoctoral researcher from 2020 to 2022.

Aryan's areas of expertise include the sustainable design of structural systems, computer-aided and simulation-based engineering, Finite Element Analysis, nonlinear structural analysis, computational package development, multi-scale testing and prototyping, timber structures, and digital manufacturing and fabrication.

Prof. Rezaei Rad joined the Department of Civil & Mineral Engineering at the University of Toronto as an Assistant Professor as of January 1, 2023.

Work Topic

Spurred by developments in digital fabrication, there has been an increase in the application of sustainable self-interlocking connections in timber structures. Accordingly, reduced-order computational models suitable for complex geometries are being developed and will be integrated into the design of large-scale timber structures.
