Dr. Aryan Rezaei Rad
Aryan Rezaei Rad is a structural engineer and postdoctoral researcher at NCCR Digital Fabrication. Aryan studied Earthquake Engineering at Tehran Polytechnic, and Structural Engineering at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, where he earned his PhD in 2020 under the direction of Prof. Dr. Yves Weinand and Prof. Dr. Henry Burton (UCLA).
Aryan's areas of expertise include computer-aided engineering, numerical simulations and Finite Element analysis, nonlinear structural analysis, computer programming, structural dynamics, risk-based (probabilistic) performance assessment, and experimental testing. Aryan has also experienced graduate research assistantship studying the collapse performance of Los Angeles wood-frame structures under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Henry Burton at the University of California Los Angeles.
Spurred by developments in digital fabrication, there has been an increase in the application of sustainable self-interlocking connections in timber structures. Accordingly, reduced-order computational models suitable for complex geometries are being developed and will be integrated into the design of large-scale timber structures.
