Alexander is an architectural engineer researching digital methods to increase sustainability in the building sector. He finished his PhD thesis on design-integrated Life Cycle Assessment at Bauhaus University Weimar in 2016 before joining ETH Zürich and the NCCR Digital Fabrication as a postdoc. In 2019 he was appointed Assistant Professor for Computational Sustainable Design at the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. Since 2017, he is an expert for digitalization for the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). Furthermore, he is founder and Head of R&D at CAALA, a software and consulting startup based in Munich, Germany.
