Alumni

Marirena Kladeftira is an architect and researcher with a strong interest in novel approaches to design based on digital fabrication. She is a postdoctoral researcher at EPFL jointly appointed between the Lab for Creative Computation and the Structural Xploration Lab. She was a doctoral fellow within the NCCR digital fabrication and a PhD researcher at the chair of Digital Building Technologies at ETH Zurich where she researched additive joints for spatial lightweight structures. She holds a diploma of Architectural Engineering from NTU Athens and a Masters in Advanced Studies in Architecture and Digital Fabrication from ETH Zurich. Before joining ETH she was a visiting researcher at the Transformable Intelligent Environments Lab at TUC.

Work Topic

"Capsules of Complexity" proposes a new framework for bespoke space frames by formulating, implementing, and evaluating fundamental methods for the geometric articulation of their joints in a holistic approach, centered around the triad –design, fabrication, assembly– with the understanding that the constraints of each process are interlinked.
