Prof. Dr. Robert Flatt

Robert J. Flatt became Professor for Physical Chemistry of Building Materials at ETH Zurich, Switzerland, in September 2010. Before that he was Principal Scientist Head of Inorganic Materials at Sika Technology AG. This is the research branch of Sika AG, a Swiss company internationally active in the areas of materials used for sealing, bonding, damping, reinforcing and protecting load-bearing structures in construction and industry. Prior to joining Sika, Robert J. Flatt spent two and a half years as a postdoctoral researcher at Princeton University, in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
Prof. Flatt joined the NCCR Digital Fabrication in June 2014 as a principal investigator and has been its Deputy Director since summer 2017.

Work Topic

The research focus of Robert Flatt and his group is the physical chemistry of building materials, in particular concrete and stone. His principal topic of interest within the NCCR concerns the working mechanisms of concrete admixtures and their use in new materials and processes for digital fabrication.
